Glassblowing Level 1

   Learn the basics in a closely-supervised team environment, then improve your new skills through drills and practice. They will teach you how to safely and effectively gather glass from the furnace and use basic tools to shape the piece. They emphasize teamwork, communication and skill building in level 1. Public Glass will also discuss the basics of glass chemistry and principles of heating, cooling and gravity and their effect on glass. By the end of the class you’ll learn all the skills for making a drinking tumbler, the basic form of many blown vessels.

Glassblowing Level 2

   Hone your level 1 skills while learning new shapes and color application. You’ll learn how to create more visual interest or function with your pieces by adding handles, lip wraps, feet, etc. You will also be given a brief introduction to their cold shop allowing you to finish the bottoms of your pieces. After taking Level 2 and with your instructor’s approval, you may rent studio time to create on your own.
